As reported by ESPN, the New York Yankees relief pitching star Arnoldis Chapman was administered a PRP (plasma-rich platelet) injection for a knee injury that has plagued him for much of the 2018 season. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Chapman would be re-evaluated after two weeks. After approximately a week, Chapman might resume playing catch and slowly returning to baseball activities.
Left knee tendinitis has been a problem for the pitcher since May, and he’s been playing with discomfort. But the pain became too much. When pitching in relief against the Miami Marlins he was taken out of the game after only six pitches. Evaluated by Yankees’ doctors, nothing new presented itself in the evaluations. Chapman was then placed on the 10 day disabled list.
“It’s everything we kind of thought it was from a tendinitis standpoint,” manager Boone said. “We’re optimistic he’ll return in an impactful way this season”. There is only one month left to the regular season and the Yankees hope that there will be enough time for him to return with his full effectiveness, which the Yankees desperately need for their pennant race. “Hopefully this little timeout is something that can help freshen him up and get him back rolling for us before the end of the season,” Boone remarked.
