Dr. Sobo was raised in Brooklyn, New York and he graduated from Brooklyn College in 1977. He began his medical training at the University Autonomus of Guadalajara and completed it at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, New York. In 1985 Dr. Sobo completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Sobo was first Board-certified in Weight Loss Medicine by the American Board of Bariatric Medicine in 1990. 
Dr. Sobo’s commitment to life-long learning and professional advancement is attested to by his continuing professional training and memberships in a number of Medical Societies. These include the American College for Advancement in Medicine (1994), The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (2006), The Ageless Institute (2015). And more recently he became a founding  member of the The Clinical Peptide Society, and has had memberships in The International Peptide Society, The Age Management Medicine Group, and The Obesity Medicine Association
