Reporting results from an FDA-approved clinical trial involving researchers in the U.S., U.K., Sweden and Brazil in the journal Stem Cell Autoimmune Neurology , treatment of multiple sclerosis with adult stem cells therapy produced “remarkable” results. This clinical phase 3 trial started in 2006 adding patients and observing results ever since then. The doctors treating these patients with adult stem cell therapy, recorded detailed examinations of their progress,validating their observations.
The stem cell therapy procedure used was developed by Dr. Richard Burt of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In 2015, the international group reported some of their own initial results with relapsing-remitting MS subjects that were very encouraging. The adult stem cells which were administered not only stopped disease progression, but for many of the patients actually reversed and improved the patients’ neurological disabilities. Do date there is no FDA-approved therapy which has reversed MS symptoms or improved the quality of life for these patients. Dr. Burt states that this is the only therapy to date that has shown to reverse neurologic deficits in relapsing-remitting MS.
Of particular note was the case of Steven Storey, a marathon runner who developed MS and became wheelchair-bound and was virtually paralyzed. After four months of the treatment he reported that he could stand, and in less than ten months he was walking again and also completed a mile-long swim.
Another patient, Holly Drewry, had also become wheelchair-bound from her MS. She began to notice changes in her strength just days after her treatment, and she soon walked out of the hospital.
