Phosphatidylcholine: How It Can Help

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is an essential lipid nutrient which is a primary constituent all of our cell membranes. As such, phosphatidylcholine is important for virtually all body functions.

If you can improve the health of cellular membranes, you improve the health of the organs, and the health of the person.

  • Recent scientific advancements also show that the actual structure of your brain and brain cells play an important role in
  • preventing aging-related diseases. Lipid replacement therapy (with phospholipids) can help increase the synapses
  •  in your brain and repair aging neurons.

PC IV therapy is utilized to improve

  • Brain function- improvement in brain synapses effects cognition and memory
  • Liver function- shown to improve liver function tests in those with “fatty liver” disease
  • Detoxification- One may lipid replacement therapy as a “deep cleaning” for the cells and their mitochondria.
  • Healthy aging-Benefiting cellular membranes throughout the body benefits the organs and has as  anti-aging on the whole

PC IVs treatments are used for:

  •  Detoxification –from heavy metals, pesticides, chemicals, mold/mycotoxins, and other environmental exposures.
  • Improved neurological functions – including mood, cognition, and movement disorders
  • Repairing the body after injury Studies which have examined athletic performance  in cycling,  weight training and endurance competitions show that Phosphatidylcholine speeds up recovery, prevents muscle soreness, improves well-being, and may enhance physical performance.  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1997116/

CONDITIONS THAT MAY IMPROVE WITH PHOSPHATIDYL CHOLINE IV THERAPY:

  • Advanced aging
  • Autism and developmental delay
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Liver disease-fatty liver
  • Abnormal Blood lipids
  • Chronic infections (Lyme disease)
  • Chronic mold exposure
  • Mast cell activation syndrome
  • Multiple Sclerosis and other Neurological conditions (Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Post-Stroke)
Lipid replacement therapy may help to prevent brain aging (from mild cognitive impairment to degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s). No longer are we relying on lifestyle factors alone to help us prevent aging — we can actually look at what makes up our brains and target the nutrient deficiencies responsible for cognitive decline.
Research has shown that PC may be helpful in repairing damage to the liver caused by alcohol, pollutants, and other toxins. And PC may have a protective effect on the mucosal lining of the gut
with an anti-inflammatory effect. Phosphatidylcholine also enhances the body’s choline levels and increases brain acetylcholine formation. Studies have shown that most people need more choline for optimal functioning.
Phosphatidylcholine is perhaps the most important essential molecule among tens of thousands of molecules that comprise a cell, accounting for nearly 50% of the cell membrane. Thus, there
isn’t one function of the body that doesn’t rely on phosphatidylcholine IV treatment is for anyone who would like to improve cellular integrity and support a deep detoxification.
Phosphatidylcholine is generally well tolerated and most everyone can benefit from PC therapy. Since phosphatidylcholine is a major constituent of cell membranes, the aging of the cell
membranes occurs in part because the phospholipid membrane becomes damaged with age and illness. Replenishment with infused phosphatidyl choline helps to counter these aging effects,
and improves cellular membrane function, which serves to both deliver nutrients into the cell and export toxins out of the cell.
There is also research supporting the possibility that Phoshphatidylcholine can positively impact insulin sensitivity

PHOSHPHATIDYLCHOLINE IS GIVEN AS AN IINTRAVENOUS TREATMENT

Taken orally phosphatidyl choline cannot be effectively delivered to cellular membranes throughout the body. What happens after oral ingestion is that phosphatidyl choline circulates to the liver, and while helpful for the liver, it cannot do for the rest of the body what an IV can do, delivering 100% of the biologically active phosphatidyl choline throughout the body.

HOW OFTEN AND FOR HOW LONG DOES ONE NEED TO HAVE PC IV TREATMENTS ?

This depends on the level of need of the patient regarding either the amount toxic burden their body may be carrying, or in other cases the degree of dysfunction of their neurologic or systems being treated. To be effective, a minimum of 10 treatments is advised and often more. It is done once or twice per week, and the initial dose of 500mg will most often be increased as tolerated by the patient to 1,000mg or more. Diarrhea is a common side effect with higher doses at the beginning, and so the patients’ dose is slowly increased as tolerated. After the initial treatment period of 2 months, patients will often have maintenance doses spread out to between every 2 to 4 weeks.
