The Evidence Mounts for Vitamin D in Cancer , Heart Disease and Other Conditions.

More than 26 thousand men and women between  50 and 79 years of age were  studied over many years. Nearly 6,700 study participants died during the studies, including 2,600+ from cardiovascular diseases and 2,200+ from cancer. The compared vitamin D levels and found that those with the lowest concentrations of Vitamin D had a nearly double the risk of overall death as those with high concentrations.

Just recently another research study  regarding vitamin D and cancer survival was published in the  Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. It showed that cancer patients who have higher levels of vitamin D when they were diagnosed tend to have better survival rates and remain in remission longer than patients who were vitamin D-deficient. They analyzed 25 separate studies that measured vitamin D levels in cancer patients at the time of diagnosis and tracked survival rates. They found the strongest link between vitamin D levels and survival in breast cancer, lymphoma and colorectal cancer.

Finally, another study was published in the  Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism which investigates a  possible  underlying reason cardiovascular disease, cancer and others may all be linked to vitamin D deficiency. The  study of nearly 1,000 Irish adults examined vitamin D levels as well as biomarkers of inflammation. Participants who were vitamin D deficient were more likely to have high levels of these biomarkers, which are linked to cardiovascular disease and many other inflammatory conditions such rheumatoid arthritis and mulitple sclerosis.

This blog post follows up on my previous post of May 19th, 2014, Vitamin D Is Vital To Your Health. Vitamin D seems to be the darling of nutritional researchers so far in 2014. Everyone should have their Vitamin D level checked and act upon the findings. Foods containing Vitamin D include eggs, milk products, fish and liver.
